previous 3/4 next 1/4  Gina 3 - 1 Bardella (381663004)

55644 spectators arrived at Piracanta, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Toni Pereira was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gabriel Álvarez and Giuseppe Boi. Gina had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Lineup: Valsecchi - Roselló, Panza, Studler - DonVito, Garbarino, Roffa, Andreani - Zottino, Estébanez, Cafarelli.

Bardella decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. They fielded: Magnani - Neptun, Florio, De Loreto - Tellefsen, Iotti, Sollami, Del Serra, Huys - Corona, Cantarelli.

It was obvious that Bardella were using their pressing skill as their primary tactic. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when F. Tellefsen slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against G. Valsecchi, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. S. Panza of Gina received a yellow card after 27 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Gina created a good opportunity to score 40 minutes into the match when E. Cafarelli's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. Gina could have put themselves ahead after 41 minutes but E. Cafarelli missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right. At this time in the match, Bardella were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Bardella enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.

65 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but G. Huys, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. G. Andreani's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert J. Estébanez was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for Gina. 1 - 0. After 70 minutes, Bardella used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. As the game started to slip away for Bardella, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. The Bardella coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy. Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Bardella manager used a brief break in play after 71 minutes to give the players new directives. The Bardella players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. The Gina free kick 76 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of M. DonVito, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 2 - 0! E. Cafarelli wanted to play on, but the Gina coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 77 minutes into the game by A. Marincola. 80 minutes in, an amazing pass from the left side resulted in a goal for the visitors, as G. Huys anticipated the through ball and scored, reducing the deficit to 2 - 1. With 85 minutes played, Gina put themselves up 3 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to A. Marincola, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Gina, with 52 percent of the ball.

Most important Gina player was J. Estébanez. A. Marincola on the other hand, had a terrible day. Bardella's best player was C. Magnani. On the other hand, M. Neptun's play was disheartening. The match ends 3 - 1.
