A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 33151 to
La spiaggetta.
Antonio Clementi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Arne Schepers and
Jacob Mathiesen.
Tosca tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Tirone - Caçapava, Mellendorf, Vargas Rivera, Ruggerone, Küchenmeister - van Eijkeren, Schwarm, Wiktorko, Leo - Schlotterhausen.
Salernitana had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
They fielded: Trimboli - Brazuna, Di Franco, Valentini - Menchón, Zedda, Bonasio, Bulzomì, Pirrone - De Simei, Zeuren.
For their match strategy, Tosca had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.
F. Camusso was called on to replace Tosca's
S. Vargas Rivera after 14 minutes following a nasty collision.
Salernitana's
D. De Simei managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 25 minutes. 0 - 1.
Tosca's
M. Schlotterhausen put his head to a high ball coming in from the right after 27 minutes, but the ball went wide.
No matter how hard he tried,
M. Schlotterhausen just couldn't get his shot past the visitors' right side defence after 28 minutes.
30 minutes in, Salernitana's
U. Bonasio received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
P. Mellendorf's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for Tosca, he bravely continued in the match.
Tosca's counterattacks created a good chance for
F. Schwarm on the right after 33 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar.
Halftime score was 0 - 1.
Salernitana had most of the ball, with 62 percent of possession.
Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile
F. Camusso.
The home crowd cheered when, after 49 minutes,
I. Menchón's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
With 50 minutes gone,
F. Camusso suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by Tosca caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring.
The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs
R. van Eijkeren found it hard to get back into position.
66 minutes into the match,
G. Zedda came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide.
Salernitana increased their lead after 83 minutes when
G. Zedda broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 2, much to the home crowd's dismay.
The referee showed Salernitana's
P. Di Franco the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
In a fantastic display of determination, Tosca's
F. Schwarm forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down.
Salernitana enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 66 percent of possession.
Most important Tosca player was
F. Schwarm.
However,
V. Tirone made a disastrous appearance.
The most dominating Salernitana player was without a doubt
D. De Simei.
F. Valentini was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 0 - 2.
