Clear skies welcomed the 35548 spectators who had made their way to Syd Barrett Memorial Dome. Enrico Bortuzzo was the appointed referee. Casalnuovo started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Aprile - Hammarström, Villouta, Barlati - Corbucci, Tamelli, Challier, Balbiano - Wassenaar, Sivori, Falkflod.

Broken decided to use a 4-5-1 set up. The following players took the field: Yecora - Szaton, Todeschini, Angrilli, Di Paola - Bertelsen, Cecchetti, Miloscio, Rocco, Pedroni - Aktuğ.

Casalnuovo took the lead 19 minutes in, as A. Sivori broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. Broken's L. Szaton was shown a yellow card after 25 minutes for slicing down an opponent. The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 30 minutes, F. Cecchetti broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper. C. Aprile made a great block, though. The visiting team's P. Rocco was able to score the 1 - 1 equaliser with a header 31 minutes into the match, after some good work on the right. Casalnuovo fans held their breath as R. Wassenaar scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 2 - 1! Casalnuovo were given a gift! The ref dubiously awarded them a penalty 34 minutes into the match, which was neatly put away by T. Hammarström. 3 - 1 for the home side. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave G. Miloscio from Broken a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 35 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The guests got an opportunity to reduce after 36 minutes and P. Rocco took it from the penalty spot, scoring easily for 3 - 2. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Casalnuovo, with 56 percent of the ball.

After 47 minutes T. Bertelsen made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to S. Aktuğ who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 3 - 3. 52 minutes into the match, Broken nearly took the lead, as S. Aktuğ broke through on the right. C. Aprile made the save, however. A. Barlati got new instructions from the Casalnuovo coach after 59 minutes. He changed positions with T. Hammarström soon after. After 60 minutes, the Casalnuovo manager redeployed his men. B. Villouta swapped positions with T. Hammarström. After 60 minutes, the Casalnuovo coach had a quick word about the tactical set-up and decided to try another approach. 61 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Casalnuovo substitution. P. Cieckan came on for B. Villouta. 62 minutes in, the referee awarded Casalnuovo a penalty. T. Hammarström coolly slotted it home for a 4 - 3 lead. 63 minutes into the game, Casalnuovo were awarded a penalty that T. Hammarström turned into 5 - 3 without a problem. This third goal completed a hattrick for T. Hammarström. After 73 minutes, P. Rocco sent the corner kick right to L. Szaton who headed it sharply past the keeper. 5 - 4! After 75 minutes Casalnuovo's C. Aprile limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. Casalnuovo had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.

Casalnuovo's top performer was clearly A. Sivori. R. Wassenaar turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Broken player was without a doubt F. Cecchetti. However, P. Angrilli made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 5 - 4.
