A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 57026 to
Montone Arena.
Martynas Bachovas was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Will Suniara and
Tan Özbağ.
Montone tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
Lineup: Baatje - Milton, Endruweit, Halevi - Ybarra Moreno, van der Veer, Razzi, Fogagnolo, Strandlius - Porokhnenko, Käckenmeister.
Davils started off with a 5-4-1 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Zavagno - Federici, Baccolini, Folch, Catarinense, Molinari - Knol, Lorentzen, Gorinov, Meierlohr - Vignaud.
Davils were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
A. Endruweit neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to
K. Halevi who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post.
The corner kick from
D. Milton was powerfully met by the head of
D. Porokhnenko to make the score 1 - 0.
Montone's
H. Käckenmeister saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 13 minutes.
Davils's right side looked dangerous 22 minutes in, but
R. Baatje made a good save on
V. Gorinov's hard shot to the top corner.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Montone to 2 - 0 as
H. Käckenmeister finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
2 - 0 was the score after the first half.
Possession in this half belonged to Montone, who controlled the ball 58 percent of the time.
The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs
S. Knol found it hard to get back into position.
The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 56 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
L. Federici completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, easy prey for the home side's keeper.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Davils's
K. Meierlohr was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 70 minutes.
B. Onofrej was given a chance to change things around.
H. Käckenmeister could have increased the lead after 70 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
T. Vignaud finished off the counterattack of Davils from the left rather easily, making the score 2 - 1.
Montone managed to extend their lead to 3 - 1 when
H. Käckenmeister cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Montone, with 57 percent of the ball.
Montone's best player was
S. Fogagnolo.
On the other hand,
D. Milton's play was disheartening.
The most dominating Davils player was without a doubt
T. Vignaud.
However,
J. Folch made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 3 - 1.
