Clouds darkened the skies at Real Makikaz Arena as 45330 spectators turned up for the match. Lutz-Dieter Andrae was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gian Paolo Sampirisi and Goofy Blasius. Makikaz started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. SRC clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. With 11 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of SRC resulted in a counterattack that set G. Sarchiapelli free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. SRC almost scored after a swift counterattack 17 minutes into the game, but D. Bombi put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Makikaz, with 69 percent of the ball.

Good work by the SRC defensive line after 52 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found P. Mollica alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. F. Lichtenberger caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 54 minutes. This gave Makikaz the 1 - 0 lead. P. Luci came close to levelling the score 68 minutes into the game, as he was set up with a through ball coming in from the left, but his shot hit the post. Makikaz enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 70 percent of possession.

The most dominating Makikaz player was without a doubt M. Papež. N. Andersen turned in a dismal performance, however. SRC's top performer was clearly R. Agostino. On the other hand, T. Herrero's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 0.
