26101 spectators had come to
Squalostriper Arena this cloudy day.
Nicolas Jeppesen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Gianni Magatti and
Yadunath Motvani.
Squalostriper decided to use a 3-4-3 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Gabrielli - Roncisvalle, Deiana, Sergi - Patti, Marinacci, Masier, Radice - Castaldo, Claps, Filomarino.
Real had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Lineup: Pepero - Palmu, Lukošius, De Agustini - Giampaoli, Plaia, Wekema, Loutsch, Timotity - Riera, Scala.
Squalostriper clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle.
In a rapid move 27 minutes into the match,
R. Claps of Squalostriper lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked
M. Castaldo who easily hit it home to make it 1 - 0. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy!
With 31 minutes played,
G. Roncisvalle could have brought this one home for Squalostriper as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
33 minutes into the game,
L. Timotity had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
F. Giovinazzi.
34 minutes into the game,
J. Lukošius almost tied it all up for the visitors with an expertly placed free kick. Unfortunately for Real, the home keeper made an incredible save.
Squalostriper increased the lead as
M. Castaldo struck to make the score 2 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
After 41 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
D. Filomarino might have resulted in another goal for Squalostriper. However,
D. Pepero made a spectacular save.
Halftime score was 2 - 0.
Possession of the ball saw an equal split between the teams during the forty-five minutes.
As the game started to slip away for Real, the manager decided to change the tactical approach.
Squalostriper's
G. Deiana had an excellent opportunity after 54 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
The Real players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team.
The referee showed Real's
B. Plaia the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
The away team improved the scoreline to 2 - 1, as
M. Palmu struck home, set up well by a play on the left 67 minutes into the match.
E. Riera of Real received a yellow card after 78 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
M. Scala made a run for the goal 79 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end.
Neither team were able to dominate possession this half.
The most dominating Squalostriper player was without a doubt
M. Castaldo.
However,
F. Radice made a disastrous appearance.
M. Scala performed admirably for Real.
F. Giovinazzi on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 1.
