previous 10/10 next 2/10  Matematici 2 - 0 wado-kumi (381680098)

The crowd of 45941 turning up at San Stanga today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Teodor Paliar was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Stefan Gheorghe and Eugen Vögeli. Matematici started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Montecchiani - Nikolić, Fiume, Soddi - Borromeo, Glita, Gheorghe, Meller, Di Gregorio - Campara, Barrea.

wado-kumi had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Turska - Carré, Szűcs, Ruto - Lopes, Petretto, Civelli, Wołoch, Wildenbeest - Ptaszek, Okruszek.

P. Campara, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. With 26 minutes played M. Di Gregorio almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. K. Wildenbeest of wado-kumi received a yellow card after 29 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. After 30 minutes Matematici's M. Di Gregorio contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. Some great play up the middle by Matematici led to a chance for F. Meller to score after 38 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. After 39 minutes, P. Campara came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Matematici the lead. Matematici's M. Di Gregorio got himself booked for a foul. 1 - 0 was the score after the first half. Matematici claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.

After 50 minutes, wado-kumi were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. A. Okruszek did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. J. Glita unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. The referee showed Matematici's B. Borromeo the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Unfortunately for wado-kumi, M. Szűcs was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. J. Palokangas replaced him. Thighs bulging, K. Wildenbeest charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain. Matematici managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when P. Campara cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Matematici, with 58 percent of the ball.

Most important Matematici player was J. Glita. On the other hand, L. Gheorghe's play was disheartening. wado-kumi's best player was K. Ptaszek. However, J. Palokangas made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 0.
