30860 spectators had come to
Stadio Villa Giardino this cloudy day.
Vardis Vogas was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Santur Letamendi and
Thor Molbo.
Grugnolese started off with a 5-4-1 lineup.
They fielded: De Benetti - Sesto, Furci, Gottardi, Pirruccio, Calaiò - Brandwirth, Stigmo, Höstborg, Adrianopoli - Winter.
Rastarocker tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Tacchi - Alay, Piovani, Tulppala - Zyzański, Lind, Ferrara, Schillaci, Tauch - Rejdukowski, Camposo.
With 2 minutes played,
H. Camposo of Rastarocker fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
3 minutes into the game,
T. Rejdukowski was a hair's breadth away from giving Rastarocker the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by
M. De Benetti saved the home team that time.
H. Camposo knew he was in trouble after hacking down an opponent. Despite his pleading with the referee, the Rastarocker player was shown a second yellow card and dismissed from the game.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 23 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
U. Calaiò, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
With 24 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after
T. Rejdukowski came through the middle, but his kick went wide.
A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by
G. Adrianopoli. At last, Grugnolese's
M. Sesto was able to backheel the ball in. 2 - 0.
After 38 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
E. Pirruccio gave the Grugnolese supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0.
3 - 0 was the halftime score.
Grugnolese enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Rastarocker's
M. Lind was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 60 minutes.
M. Caini was given a chance to change things around.
There was concern in the stands when, at the 66 minute mark, Grugnolese's
U. Calaiò hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
The away team improved the scoreline to 3 - 1, as
M. Schillaci struck home, set up well by a play on the left 76 minutes into the match.
D. Höstborg almost put Grugnolese ahead another goal when he curled a free kick over the defensive wall and almost into the net, but the visitors' keeper got there just in time to knock it wide.
T. Tauch's experience almost gave Rastarocker a goal after 83 minutes but the keeper made a great save.
Grugnolese's counterattack was impressive and was only stopped by a shocking foul. Somehow, the referee's cards remained in his pocket - a terrible decision!
D. Höstborg's resulting free kick was easily saved by the keeper.
This part of the game was a standoff between the teams in terms of possession.
L. Stigmo performed admirably for Grugnolese.
M. Sesto was a disappointment, however.
Rastarocker's best player was
T. Rejdukowski.
T. Tauch turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 3 - 1.
