The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 21797 had shown up at
Saint Germain Arena for the match.
Mats Beckmo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by

U. Pompole had an excellent opportunity after 25 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
H. Gülsim squirmed through their central defence after 30 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0.

V. Fèvre swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball.

E. Marcondes of G-Catania fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.

M. Di Paola found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. 4 - 0.
Confident in their lead, Germain's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
Cheers filled the stadium as
M. Hungría broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 5 - 0 to Germain.
With 67 minutes played,
M. Di Paola could have brought this one home for Germain as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Germain's
V. Fèvre increasing the lead to 6 - 0.
Germain had most of the ball, with 88 percent of possession.
Most important Germain player was
M. Hungría.
On the other hand,
P. Armillei's play was disheartening.
E. Marcondes performed admirably for G-Catania.
D. Romaniec was a disappointment, however.
