25495 spectators had found their way to
Maryon Park, despite the heavy rain.

Charlton started off with a 4-3-3 lineup.
They fielded: Pascale - Liverani, Rorato, Baccini, Apostolo - Brecchia, Besenzon, Farnelli - Bozzone, Pozzoli, Lotto.
Express had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
The following players took the field: Aikioniemi - Lifling, Murgia - Lizza, Håkansson, Puganigg, Arguedas, Angulo - Sens, Loddo, Odyak.
This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when
R. Lizza slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against
G. Pascale, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes.
Express's
Y. Odyak gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 9 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
A. Pozzoli was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace.
20 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 2 as
A. Arguedas finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
Y. Odyak wanted to play on, but the Express coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 20 minutes into the game by
T. Cunha Leite.
In the lead, Express adjusted their style of play with 20 minutes gone.
The coach of Express was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 20 minutes,
P. Huertas came on for
O. Sens.
It was 0 - 2 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Express, with 56 percent of the ball.
B. Håkansson left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 46 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
C. Kasim was the replacement.
Charlton didn't give in and with 61 minutes played
M. Baccini was able to make the score 1 - 2 after an attack on the right.

Charlton's
C. Lotto put his head to a high ball coming in from the right after 69 minutes, but the ball went wide.
O. Bozzone showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 75 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 2 - 2 equaliser away.
T. Cunha Leite of Express received a yellow card after 78 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Express claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
Charlton's top performer was clearly
G. Besenzon.
S. Liverani on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The most dominating Express player was without a doubt
P. Huertas.
On the other hand,
T. Cunha Leite's play was disheartening.
