21272 spectators had found their way to
R. Menti, despite the heavy rain.
Laust Thyrring was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Norman Kikerpill and
Abe Egan.
Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this
Campania derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents.
Stabia started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Kemény - Suhonen, Müller, Tenno - Frigerio, Casaburi, Corda, Bettocchi, Puglisi - Francini, Bovone.
Silverese decided to use a 3-4-3 set up.
They fielded: Eigenstetter - Weitzer, Ruotsalainen, Urbano - Bin-Yaseen, Światkowski, Győrffy, De Simone - Bratland, Bouhuis, Radebeul.
F. Radebeul slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today.
After some beautiful movement down the left wing,
S. Puglisi scored for Stabia putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 24 minutes.
33 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
M. Bettocchi broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for Stabia.
N. Mozzarelli was called on to replace Silverese's
K. Światkowski after 34 minutes following a nasty collision.
After 35 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
M. Corda gave the Stabia supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0.
After 36 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
T. Francini might have resulted in another goal for Stabia. However,
H. Eigenstetter made a spectacular save.
The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Stabia, with 66 percent of the ball.
T. Francini could have put Stabia up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 74 minutes.
F. Radebeul's lightning pace was too much for
W. Müller who could only look on as the Silverese player blasted one home. 3 - 1.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
A. Frigerio squirmed through their central defence after 77 minutes, increasing the lead to 4 - 1.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Stabia lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Silverese's
K. Weitzer refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 84 minutes.
Stabia claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 63 percent.
Stabia's best player was
M. Bettocchi.
On the other hand,
S. Kemény's play was disheartening.
Most important Silverese player was
C. Bouhuis.
However,
A. Urbano made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 4 - 1.
