previous 7/10 next 9/10  United 4 - 0 A.S.Apaches (381760223)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 31527 to West Olympic Stadium. Jochen Dassau was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Sergio Benítez and Marcos Honrado. United decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. They fielded: Pikkarainen - Esser, van Luik, Forestan - Pollo, Pint, Lushi, Laguda - Cannas, Gehrz, Migani.

A.S.Apaches tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Argenziano - Lang, Beckmann, Triani - Deriu, Csöke, Falcó, Ugoccioni, Peila - Švejdar, Fonti.

Today, A.S.Apaches's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks. After 6 minutes, United sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached M. Lushi, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 0. Coming through the middle J. Falcó almost scored the equaliser for A.S.Apaches after 12 minutes, but J. Pikkarainen made an excellent save, tipping the awkwardly curled shot past the post. M. Gehrz of United seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 2 - 0 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by I. van Luik. 17 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as G. Laguda broke through, making the score 3 - 0 for United. After this, you could see that the players of United were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. What ever got into R. Triani, the crowd mumbled, as he suddenly struck a cross pass through his own defence - ending up right in front of United's M. Gehrz, who easily put the ball away for 4 - 0 after 23 minutes. 4 - 0 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by United, with 58 percent of the ball.

Players in A.S.Apaches heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. A great save by keeper L. Argenziano after 56 minutes kept the visitors in the game after L. Migani struck from the left with a real cannonball. After 61 minutes, A.S.Apaches used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. United's M. Cannas had an excellent opportunity after 65 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! M. Cannas could have increased the lead after 74 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. United had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.

The most dominating United player was without a doubt M. Cannas. M. Forestan on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important A.S.Apaches player was K. Švejdar. However, A. Fonti made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 4 - 0.
