28-07-2012 12.30
24890 spectators arrived at
Viola Mia Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Emmanuel Dion was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Michael Nir and
Franjo Janić.
Viola had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Poinot - Enache, Tiefenbach - Fantinato, Schweinzer-Ableiding, Spinali, Ardiles, Villanger - Persson, Nozzetti, Villagra.
Gutta tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
Starters: Dias - Linén, van der Weert, Alves, Spampinato - Lucia, Devault, Amado, Iozzino - Brynaert, Belitsch.
The wings were the focus of most of Gutta's attacks today.
Some great play up the middle by Viola led to a chance for
D. Tiefenbach to score after 11 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
C. Garnier was called on to replace Viola's
E. Nozzetti after 40 minutes following a nasty collision.
After 42 minutes, Gutta put themselves up 0 - 1, as
W. Iozzino finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot.
With 43 minutes played, Viola's
A. Villagra found an opening in the visitors' left side defence, but his shot was handled easily by the keeper.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1.
Viola had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.
After 53 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
L. Alves to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2.
Gutta increased their lead after 60 minutes when
J. Linén broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay.
The players of Gutta now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
N. Devault of Gutta seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 0 - 4 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
E. Spampinato.
The Gutta players could smell victory in the air.
N. Devault wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
A. Mazingue after 75 minutes.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Gutta coach let
R. van Schendelen replace
T. Belitsch after 80 minutes.
The coach of Gutta was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 83 minutes,
J. van Dorpel came on for
J. Linén.
Viola claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.
Viola's best player was
H. Persson.
D. Tiefenbach on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Gutta's top performer was clearly
R. Brynaert.
F. Dias turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 4.
