Clear skies welcomed the 25121 spectators who had made their way to
Alcatraz Arena.
Chetanaanand Danny was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Lieven Delauw and
Foppe van der Mije.
Dai Sassol decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Boccia - Racalbuto, Groth, Mirkevich - Marino, Dotan, Szyller, Olberg, Zumsteg - Apolloni, Leuthe.
Borgorosso had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
Lineup: Toppler - Zúñiga Bazán, Costa, Boisio - Vita, Zaccardi, Dawson, Vangerow - Scuffi, Cacciatore, Lopilato.
The wings were the focus of most of Dai Sassol's attacks today.
Borgorosso mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
Dai Sassol had a good opportunity to take the lead as
H. Zumsteg came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of
H. Toppler.
A. Vangerow delivered a good free kick from an excellent position 27 minutes into the game, but luck wasn't on Borgorosso's side this time and the ball went wide.
36 minutes into the match, a typically brave header by
J. Leuthe from
H. Zumsteg's cross looped just over the opposing goalkeeper's desperate reach. Goal for Dai Sassol, making the score 1 - 0.
Cheers filled the stadium as
R. Marino broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Dai Sassol.
Players in Dai Sassol heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead.
Coming from the right,
L. Groth almost managed to score another goal for Dai Sassol, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper.
It was 2 - 0 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Dai Sassol, with 54 percent of the ball.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Dai Sassol to 3 - 0 as
R. Szyller finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
It was obvious that team Borgorosso had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
With 66 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock, Borgorosso showed some good skill and were able to reduce the score to 3 - 1 when
M. Lopilato got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal.
R. Szyller could have increased the lead after 69 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
The home team's fans were upset when, after 75 minutes, the visiting
V. Zúñiga Bazán broke through the central defence and kicked the ball past the keeper. 3 - 2 was the score.
Borgorosso were close to putting the equaliser away after 77 minutes as the opposing defence lost control of the ball to
G. Cacciatore in a scuffle towards the left of the goal, but in the end the ball was cleared over the dead ball line.
Dai Sassol were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
Possession in this half belonged to Dai Sassol, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.
The most dominating Dai Sassol player was without a doubt
J. Olberg.
L. Groth on the other hand, had a terrible day.
M. Lopilato performed admirably for Borgorosso.
However,
V. Zúñiga Bazán made a disastrous appearance.
