The 22582 fans in attendance at
Olimpico di Salsasio were roasting in the hot sun.
Carl Orening was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Krzesisław Myczkowski and
Vicenţiu Cojocaru.
The derby had been the talk of
Torino all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium.
A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Salsasio.
Starters: Piggiosu - Polesello, Koptilov - Lupica, Stephant, Senoba, Lanci, Nõmmeots - Wiebalck, Pérez, Zapychaj.
Frakiki tactics involved an interesting 4-5-1 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Hege - Dosio, Barbagalli, Turella, La Pesara - Ülkan, van Ekeren, Rodríguez, Tojal, Eftimie - Marić.
Frakiki saw most attack opportunities on the wings.
After 4 minutes, Salsasio's
F. Stephant fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
The referee signaled a penalty for the home side after 8 minutes, amid vocal protests from the visitors. Salsasio fans erupted in celebration as
R. Zapychaj rifled the ball into the the top corner. 1 - 0!
It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why
F. Stephant found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork.
R. Zapychaj unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0.
Frakiki had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 59 minutes, Frakiki did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
F. Dosio was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 1.
Frakiki were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 67 minutes into the match left Frakiki's
G. Tojal completely free to score. 1 - 2 for the visitors.
74 minutes into the match Salsasio's
G. Polesello head butted an opponent nastily, and so the referee sent him off immediately.
Frakiki were forced into a substitution as
F. Dosio couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
S. Nardella to come in off the bench.
Salsasio made it 2 - 2 as
I. Wiebalck got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to
S. Lupica who whipped a low drive in off the far post.
Frakiki had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead.
After 86 minutes, Frakiki put themselves up 2 - 3, as
B. Ülkan finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot.
The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs
R. Zapychaj found it hard to get back into position.
Frakiki claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
Salsasio's best player was
B. Pérez.
S. Lupica turned in a dismal performance, however.
Frakiki's top performer was clearly
G. Barbagalli.
However,
S. Nardella made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 2 - 3.
