It had rained all day, but 12000 hardy fans still made it out to
Pozzale Arena.
Jonas Tegby was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Dennis Zapata and
Maurice Chevènement.
A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Pozzale.
Lineup: Bräuer - Dehni, Simonelli, Bajatović, Campaniello - Tolu, Fiorentini, Fordon - Namocari, Tolloi, Kärrskog.
cinghia started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Ura - Abraham, Goubard, Quartela - Grundmann, Brandariz, Lacalle Moreno, Tunghall, Henes - Geukens, Tsakmakidis.
A well placed corner kick from
B. Bajatović was followed by
A. Fiorentini's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Pozzale, the score now 1 - 0.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Pozzale's
W. Dehni increasing the lead to 2 - 0.
B. Geukens was having a great game - if anything the pouring rain seemed to be spurring him on!
The home side's
W. Dehni came close to extending the lead 40 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
U. Ura managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop.
The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like
W. Tolu.
The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 43 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
Y. Tsakmakidis completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, easy prey for the home side's keeper.
44 minutes in, Pozzale's
W. Dehni received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
P. Tolloi showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Pozzale after 44 minutes to make the score 3 - 0.
By now, the players in Pozzale felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
3 - 0 was the halftime score.
Pozzale claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
Pozzale's
N. Simonelli increased the lead to 4 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 48 minutes.
M. Namocari wanted to play on, but the Pozzale coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 60 minutes into the game by
T. Krasnodębski.
After 69 minutes, cinghia's
A. Henes fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
I. Lacalle Moreno spent most of the time in a heap on the ground today, his normally rapid movement hindered by the slippery pitch.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Pozzale coach let
C. Briosch replace
W. Dehni after 75 minutes.
N. Simonelli could have increased the lead after 77 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
With 80 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock, cinghia showed some good skill and were able to reduce the score to 4 - 1 when
Y. Tsakmakidis got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
C. Abraham got himself booked. The manager of cinghia was not happy.
Pozzale had most of the ball, with 62 percent of possession.
The most dominating Pozzale player was without a doubt
M. Kärrskog.
W. Tolu turned in a dismal performance, however.
cinghia's top performer was clearly
B. Geukens.
On the other hand,
A. Henes's play was disheartening.
The match ends 4 - 1.
