Cavriago 4 - 1 Buffy (381834618)

27064 spectators had found their way to Taiji Kase, despite the heavy rain. Jacob Blicher was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Paolo Fellini and Ragner Fredgaard. Cavriago had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Alzina - Lagoa, Strand, Schäferskampp - Bandino, De Francesco, Mucci, Peirolo, Vergeli - Georgescu, Pawlak.

Buffy decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. They fielded: González - van Delden, Fournarakis, Scibilia - Llarch, Kremenetskiy, Nauff, Katzenstein, Rosa - Balestri, Dedessuslesmoustier.

Buffy immediately set off using their skill at pressing their opponents. B. Bandino's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert Z. Pawlak was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for Cavriago. 1 - 0. F. Katzenstein did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. R. Georgescu was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace. Against a lesser team, Buffy could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 21 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. The referee showed Buffy's C. Nauff the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. With 24 minutes played, Cavriago put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to G. De Francesco, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. Q. Mucci of Cavriago received a yellow card after 25 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. G. De Francesco could have put Cavriago up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 34 minutes. Cavriago increased the lead as J. Vergeli struck to make the score 3 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. The visitors replied 36 minutes into the game, reducing the home side's lead to 3 - 1, as E. Rosa dashed up the middle, easily lobbing the ball over the home team's keeper. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 1. Cavriago claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

At this time in the match, Buffy were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. Cavriago's R. Georgescu swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. After 70 minutes, Buffy switched E. Kremenetskiy with D. Branca, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. Cavriago's R. Georgescu got himself booked for a foul. G. Llarch of Buffy had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. M. Barbu came in to finish the match. With 79 minutes played, Cavriago's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to B. Bandino he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 4 - 1. By now, the players in Cavriago felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. With 81 minutes played, Z. Pawlak could have brought this one home for Cavriago as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, V. Fournarakis got himself booked. The manager of Buffy was not happy. Z. Pawlak should probably have put his team up another goal after 86 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by S. González kept the visitors in the game. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Cavriago, with 56 percent of the ball.

The most dominating Cavriago player was without a doubt Q. Mucci. R. Georgescu on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Buffy player was S. Balestri. A. Scibilia was a disappointment, however. The match ends 4 - 1.
