14400 spectators arrived at
Parentesi Stadium, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Dirck Bonnema was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Conrad Freier and
Remko Cleassens.
Parentesi decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Segovia - Pérez Cruz, Makaron, Tein - Pàmies, Kierdas, Wang-Ombe, Bavière, Drăgulin - Steffan, Rageor.
Perugias had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Lineup: Siivola - Zubčić, Chrichar, Noël, Ohlman - Tuttobene, Casoni, Bleichröder, Tveite - Navarro Ategui, Rada.
Parentesi used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Perugias.
In a rapid move 6 minutes into the match,
A. Tuttobene of Perugias lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked
I. Navarro Ategui who easily hit it home to make it 0 - 1. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy!
The Parentesi equaliser came after 11 minutes when
A. Pérez Cruz floated in a free kick making the score 1 - 1.
After 14 minutes, Parentesi were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
H. Wang-Ombe did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
Many thought
A. Bavière ought to have been awarded a penalty 27 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
J. Siivola after a determined run through the middle.
28 minutes into the game Perugias managed a counterattack, but
I. Navarro Ategui took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper.
Parentesi were very close to putting themselves one up after 32 minutes as
N. Steffan got through on the left, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide.
Halftime score was 1 - 1.
Parentesi had most of the ball, with 74 percent of possession.
Some great play up the middle by Parentesi led to a chance for
P. Tein to score after 68 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
Parentesi created a good opportunity to score 75 minutes into the match when
H. Wang-Ombe's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball.
The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 77 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
A. Pérez Cruz, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
79 minutes into the game,
F. Casoni had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
A. van Kapel.
Parentesi were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally.
P. Tein had a fantastic opportunity to put Parentesi up another goal 82 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
Possession in this half belonged to Parentesi, who controlled the ball 76 percent of the time.
Most important Parentesi player was
T. Kierdas.
However,
N. Steffan made a disastrous appearance.
Perugias's best player was
A. Noël.
K. Tveite turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 2 - 1.
