14210 spectators had come to
san paolo this cloudy day.
Evgenios Violaris was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Toine Bartels and
Ricardo Bustos.
imperial78 decided to use a 5-3-2 set up.
They fielded: Schröder - de Castro, Cruz, Angemi, Bîrnaz, Roman - Iroldi, Pretkus, Chammem - Obrador, Kapolka.
A 5-4-1 alignment was the formation of choice for BDW06.
The following players took the field: Favasuli - Padun, Traverso, Dilg-Günther, Lítio, Barbu - Muñoz, Kiss, Petrović, Santin - Ferrara.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for imperial78.
The imperial78 free kick 11 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
B. Kapolka, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 1 - 0!
Against a lesser team, BDW06 could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 12 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
With the clock showing 13 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of imperial78 resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
H. Chammem in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high.
A wonderful trick by
C. Obrador that left
C. Dilg-Günther bewildered really deserved to end in a goal but the keeper made a fine save.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0.
BDW06 claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.
With 60 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
G. Angemi needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.
BDW06's
R. Favasuli had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 80 minutes having been played.
E. Kamerman was the replacement.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by BDW06, with 57 percent of the ball.
imperial78's top performer was clearly
B. Kapolka.
However,
R. Schröder made a disastrous appearance.
J. Lítio performed admirably for BDW06.
E. Kamerman turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 0.
