The 15491 fans in attendance at
Tonino Benelli were roasting in the hot sun.
Rogier Kennedy was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Gerson Huayta and
Alex Demeter.
Peddy had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Brandner - Persson, Jaspers, Torsson - Baltico, Jager, Hildebrandt, Kolber, Spedicati - Vrňata, Mordt.
Saggs started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Bjerkli - Marosi, Gilbert, Cano - Luchetti, Gagliano, Delvalle, Manzolini, Bresson - Rullo, Alves.
Peddy saw most attack opportunities on the wings.
Today, Saggs's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
It was obvious that Peddy had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle.
Peddy could have put themselves ahead after 9 minutes but
D. Vrňata missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right.
After 16 minutes of play, Peddy's
P. Spedicati unexpectedly struck an inside out ball from no angle at all and
H. Mordt slotted it into the net for 1 - 0.
After 17 minutes, Saggs sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
C. Cano, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 1.
Saggs had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead.
Saggs took the lead after 22 minutes making the score 1 - 2.
S. Gilbert placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left.
Players in Saggs heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead.
A drive down the left side allowed
M. Luchetti to get in close and score another goal for Saggs after 24 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 3.
With 30 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
M. Luchetti of Saggs to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 4.
By now, the players in Saggs felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
It was 1 - 4 at the break.
Saggs had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.
Attacking on the wings was the choice for Saggs, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack.
Saggs came close to extending their lead as
D. Alves delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 51 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.
D. Alves of Saggs took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 65 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 1 - 5.
G. Manzolini didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
It wasn't a good day at all for
R. Jager. His powerful style of play just didn't fit the bill on this warm day.
Some things can only be learned through experience, and
C. Cano should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Peddy a goal with 85 minutes of the match played.
86 minutes into the game, Saggs worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch.
After 87 minutes Peddy's
P. Baltico limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue.
Saggs enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 64 percent of possession.
Most important Peddy player was
G. Jaspers.
However,
R. Jager made a disastrous appearance.
J. Delvalle performed admirably for Saggs.
L. Bjerkli on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 1 - 5.
