previous 10/10 next 2/10  Fosco 0 - 4 Catania (381885136)

12042 spectators had found their way to Fosco Team Stadium, despite the heavy rain. Vladimir Avramović was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Marius De Maesschalck and Philip Loibl. Fosco tactics involved an interesting 4-5-1 combination. Lineup: Kunduz - Auguste, Hansen, Navarro García, Avi - Madeira, Niño, Del Riccio, Lanier, Topuz - Duff.

Catania started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Haag - Ribiscini, Hanghofer, Ravarotto - Verdiani, Ruiz, Parrilla, Moura, 树胜 (Shusheng) - Miranda, Lehtolainen.

It was an obvious ambition of Catania to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. After a fine move down the middle L. Auguste nearly gave the home side a goal after 8 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. 10 minutes into the match, Catania nearly took the lead, as B. Miranda broke through on the right. C. Kunduz made the save, however. M. Lanier had a hard time on the waterlogged pitch - his trademark technique was nowhere in sight today. The most controversial moment of the game was likely the penalty given after 30 minutes. Catania's M. Lehtolainen kept his concentration, despite the upset crowd, and calmly put the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 1. Catania increased their lead after 33 minutes when 潘. 树胜 (Shusheng) broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 2, much to the home crowd's dismay. J. Kirvesmies was called on to replace Fosco's C. Kunduz after 38 minutes following a nasty collision. M. Hansen behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 39 minutes as he gave the ball away to B. Miranda. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. It was obvious that Catania had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. B. Miranda increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3. After the ball was lifted in from the left, T. Moura was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 44 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. It was 0 - 3 at the break. Catania claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.

The referee showed Catania's G. Ravarotto the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Fosco needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 60 minutes M. Madeira made way for X. Isern. A penalty was awarded after 61 minutes, and M. Lehtolainen made the most of his chance to put Catania up by another goal. 0 - 4 for the visitors. Confident in their lead, Catania's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. The bench was restless, and with 70 minutes passed Fosco's coach gave M. Leuckfeld the opportunity the player had been hoping for. D. Duff reluctantly left the field. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave P. Ribiscini from Catania a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 70 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The coach of Catania was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 71 minutes, P. Calvelli came on for M. Verdiani. The Catania players could smell victory in the air. S. Hanghofer wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for T. Kaasik after 71 minutes. T. Kaasik became the new Catania captain. E. Ruiz wanted to play on, but the Catania coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 71 minutes into the game by G. Spichtig. Attacking on the wings was the choice for Catania, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack. Given a free kick in a difficult position after 82 minutes, Catania tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. Catania had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.

Fosco's best player was G. Del Riccio. On the other hand, J. Kirvesmies's play was disheartening. Catania's top performer was clearly 潘. 树胜 (Shusheng). D. Haag was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 4.
