Dark skies made the crowd of 14592 at WFS Stadium a little nervous, but the rain held off. Wolfgang Krebs was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gherardo Rotolo and Magnus Liedbratt. WFS tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. They fielded: Mentone - Marcassoli, Bethmann, Mparmpounakis - Nicholls, Garlacz, Zabalburu, Genoud - Gai, Daire, Wilbrink.

Atletico started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. Lineup: Mårtensson - Schischka, Tabak, Fenti, Tarrade - Weijermans, Sezel, Lavaud, Drugă - Lengyel, Wicken.

Today, Atletico's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 3 minutes into the match, and E. Sezel wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors. B. Schischka could have put his team up another goal 8 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. J. Wicken wanted to play on, but the Atletico coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 30 minutes into the game by H. Gullin. L. Zabalburu received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 33 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from E. Sezel after 36 minutes, and prevented Atletico from going up another goal. WFS had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 37 minutes, but P. Marcassoli's shot from the left sailed high over the bar. E. Sezel came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over I. Mentone but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Atletico had most of the ball, with 59 percent of possession.

Atletico were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. Atletico's M. Lavaud made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 56 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. With the scoreboard showing that 70 minutes had been played, Atletico nearly put themselves up another goal after M. Lavaud came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. WFS's P. Gai was shown a yellow card after 72 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Due to a severely mistimed tackle, B. Schischka of Atletico spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Atletico coach let G. Pasinato replace M. Lavaud after 75 minutes. B. Schischka of Atletico took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 75 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2. With 78 minutes played, G. Pasinato nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Atletico, with 60 percent of the ball.

D. Genoud performed admirably for WFS. I. Garlacz on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Atletico player was without a doubt B. Tabak. G. Fenti turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 2.
