5444 fans braved the pouring rain at
U.S Carneval United Arena.
Andrea Genovese was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Dwight McCauley and
Arnaldo Zamperetti.
Carneval had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Starters: Cibinetto - Lencioni, Capecchi, Pasqui, Suprozzo - Cangemi, Senesi, Benedetto, Gianfelici - Arcolin, Ragucci.
s.s.c. started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Lineup: Locqueneux - Rudian, Kama, Wegers - Azzimane, Bellavista, Ptaszyński, Cellemme, Lórán - Jeanrenaud, Lattek.
Thighs bulging,
G. Gianfelici charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain.
0 - 1 was the score with 16 minutes played, after
T. Jeanrenaud cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for s.s.c..
s.s.c.'s
C. Kama was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 28 minutes.
K. Lórán of s.s.c. took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 33 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2.
s.s.c. increased their lead after 38 minutes when
M. Bellavista broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay.
The visitors'
K. Lórán took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 40 minutes into the match. 0 - 4 for s.s.c..
At this point, it was obvious that the players of s.s.c. lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
G. Benedetto was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace.
A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from
E. Lattek after 43 minutes, and prevented s.s.c. from going up another goal.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 4.
s.s.c. enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 77 percent of possession.
M. Bellavista received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 52 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 5. The s.s.c. fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
The home crowd was not impressed when
S. Azzimane came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 54 minutes. s.s.c. were now up 0 - 6.
67 minutes into the game,
G. Suprozzo had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
M. Ria.
After 68 minutes, s.s.c.'s
K. Lórán burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 7.
This third goal completed a hattrick for
K. Lórán.
s.s.c. had to make a substitution after 71 minutes.
E. Lattek limped off the field and was replaced by
G. Drago.
After 79 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
K. Lórán a chance to increase the lead for s.s.c., and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 8.
s.s.c. claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 80 percent.
Most important Carneval player was
G. Ragucci.
M. Cibinetto turned in a dismal performance, however.
s.s.c.'s top performer was clearly
M. Rudian.
S. Wegers was a disappointment, however.
