previous 1/10 next 3/10  Milan~ 1 - 6 Zeneise (382008234)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and San Siro saw a crowd turnout of 9796. Mikko Pönkänen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jannik Zver and Carlos Manuel Paiaro. Milan~ had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players took the field: van Arendonk - Heus, Westend, Dönhoff - Rigg, Hiser, Stefanelli, Bertaux, Zora - Pietragalla, Drogt.

Zeneise tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Chłopecki - Guedes, Alocci, Mazurczyk - Sáez, Chocho, Miran, Andreasen, Portmann - van Hanegem, Conze.

Milan~ seemed to prefer attacking in the middle. Zeneise clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 10 minutes allowed C. Portmann to score for Zeneise. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. After 32 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed M. Conze to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. The home crowd was not impressed when M. Conze came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 34 minutes. Zeneise were now up 0 - 3. By now, the players in Zeneise felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. The counterattack by Zeneise resulted in a free kick that L. Alocci bent under the crossbar - 0 - 4! In a rapid move 40 minutes into the match, C. Portmann of Zeneise lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked R. van Hanegem who easily hit it home to make it 0 - 5. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy! Milan~ players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when M. Drogt scored after a brilliant midfield combination through the centre, reducing the lead to 1 - 5. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 5. Milan~ enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.

A drive down the left side allowed V. Guedes to get in close and score another goal for Zeneise after 58 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 6. With 64 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Zeneise resulted in a counterattack that set R. van Hanegem free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Milan~, with 59 percent of the ball.

Most important Milan~ player was G. Pietragalla. However, L. van Arendonk made a disastrous appearance. Zeneise's best player was M. Conze. M. Chłopecki was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 6.
