28-07-2012 12.55
The 8379 fans in attendance at
Emirates Amelia Stadium were roasting in the hot sun.
Luis Suárez was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Sietse de Zwarte and
Diego Fernández.
People from all over
Lazio had joined up for the derby.
Deportivo had chosen a strategic 4-3-3 formation.
Lineup: Enggrob Bøndergaard - Kędzierski, Buciuman, Tedeschi, Meller - Buchan, Soja, Garippa - Trammell, Vidal, Di Palma.
Socorro decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Starters: Fata - Bundo, Valli, Caramelli, Peluffo - Cerino, Bottiglieri, Prunotto, Marta - Coffetti, Roncali.
Deportivo tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
It wasn't a pretty goal, but the free kick by
O. Soja after 26 minutes somehow found its way past the keeper. Deportivo takes the lead, 1 - 0!
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Deportivo scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
M. Meller after 44 minutes.
The players of Deportivo now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
Deportivo managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when
W. Kędzierski cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
With 44 minutes played, Socorro's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to
R. Roncali he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 3 - 1.
The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 1.
Possession in this half belonged to Deportivo, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.
The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs
J. Buchan found it hard to get back into position.
Deportivo were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally.
65 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
O. Soja broke through, making the score 4 - 1 for Deportivo.
Deportivo solidified their lead at the 79 minute mark, as
C. Di Palma dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 5 - 1.
M. Meller hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but it was mishandled, giving Deportivo's
M. Tedeschi an easy chance to knock it in for 6 - 1.
Deportivo were given a gift! The ref dubiously awarded them a penalty 83 minutes into the match, which was neatly put away by
O. Soja. 7 - 1 for the home side.
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
O. Soja.
It was obvious that team Deportivo had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
Cheers filled the stadium as
C. Di Palma broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 8 - 1 to Deportivo.
Deportivo put themselves up 9 - 1 when
C. Di Palma broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
This third goal completed a hattrick for
C. Di Palma.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Deportivo, with 66 percent of the ball.
Deportivo's top performer was clearly
T. Trammell.
O. Buciuman turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Socorro player was without a doubt
L. Marta.
However,
G. Valli made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 9 - 1.
