Clear skies welcomed the 8068 spectators who had made their way to
Slaugther Arena.
Luis Alberto Paco was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Clyde MacAulay and
Ronald Orth.
A.C. had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Lineup: Piana - Giorgetti, Furgieri, Barresi, Alessandrini - Fistolera, Della Ventura, Alesse, Trinchese - Scatolini, Stella.
cerreto started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Carrieri - Tedde, Nacci, Codârleanu, Fracassi - Zuriago, Bettini, Monazza, Frisenna - Forese, Cervone.
cerreto took the lead 3 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle.
P. Frisenna was the scorer.
After 12 minutes cerreto's
V. Codârleanu contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.
After 24 minutes, cerreto's
V. Codârleanu burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2.
After 26 minutes, A.C. sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
G. Stella, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 2.
A drive down the left side allowed
L. Monazza to get in close and score another goal for cerreto after 37 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 3.
As
M. Forese had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the cerreto player a red card without batting an eyelid.
L. Monazza received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 41 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score.
1 - 3 was the halftime score.
A.C. had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
cerreto's
G. Cervone made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 47 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
A. Alesse challenged the visitors' central defence eagerly, producing a good chance 61 minutes into the game as he went for a through ball. But, as so many times before, the guests' defensive efforts got the best of it.
With 69 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
P. Frisenna of cerreto to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 4.
After this, you could see that the players of cerreto were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
M. Scatolini charged down the left and looked sure to score for A.C. 73 minutes into the game, but his shot went just wide.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by A.C., with 55 percent of the ball.
A.C.'s best player was
G. Trinchese.
D. Piana was a disappointment, however.
G. Cervone performed admirably for cerreto.
S. Bettini on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 1 - 4.
