Dark skies made the crowd of 7066 at MONUMENTAL a little nervous, but the rain held off. Ignacio Sequeiros was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Carlos Ignacio Bodnar and Gary Woodward. Ompres decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Lineup: Mitgutsch - Petrella, Zavattoni, Ghilotti - Raso, Bitok, Toniutti, Dor, Romagnoli - Frantellizzi, Silvestroni.

S.S. started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. They fielded: Armani - Hărăstăşan, Brigati, Viarani, Rizza - Capursi, Chiodini, Geiser, Grassivaro - Serio, De Sanctis.

Ompres were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks. After 30 minutes of play, G. Frantellizzi gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right. E. Dor of Ompres was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. A lack of experience caused R. Chiodini to make a difficult dribble close to dangerous opponent K. Bitok of Ompres, who took the opportunity to score making it 2 - 0. After this, you could see that the players of Ompres were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. M. Hărăstăşan finished off the counterattack of S.S. from the left rather easily, making the score 2 - 1. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. G. Petrella squirmed through their central defence after 43 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 1. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Ompres to 4 - 1 as D. Toniutti finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. 44 minutes into the match S.S.'s M. Hărăstăşan head butted an opponent nastily, and so the referee sent him off immediately. G. Petrella was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Ompres's E. Tummeley had to come off the bench. 4 - 1 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Ompres, who controlled the ball 71 percent of the time.

After 53 minutes, Ompres were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. G. Frantellizzi did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. The Ompres free kick 70 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of A. Silvestroni, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 5 - 1! Ompres's E. Romagnoli was shown a yellow card after 71 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 72 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as D. Zavattoni broke through, making the score 6 - 1 for Ompres. Several players were looking tired, especially R. Chiodini who gifted the opposition a goal as he lost the ball to a still energetic K. Bitok of Ompres after 80 minutes. 7 - 1 Ompres managed to extend their lead to 8 - 1 when D. Zavattoni cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. With 82 minutes played, A. Geiser of S.S. fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. 84 minutes into the game, P. Grassivaro had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Y. Carlacchiani. Ompres claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 74 percent.

Ompres's top performer was clearly G. Frantellizzi. E. Tummeley was a disappointment, however. G. Serio performed admirably for S.S.. On the other hand, R. Chiodini's play was disheartening. The match ends 8 - 1.
