The crowd of 1654 turning up at
S.B arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Michelangelo Santagostino was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ben Reischl and
Herman Carlkvist.
stars started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Schicchi - Berto, Mattiolo, Moscardelli, Patano - Falzano, Carp, Demuro, Bedin - De Carlo, Pivetti.
O.S.L. had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Starters: Borino - Zito, Castellini, Mastrosimone, Lazzari - D'Elia, Discenza, Vettore, Carrisi - Groppo, Ammannati.
Today, stars's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
R. Patano was having a great game - if anything the pouring rain seemed to be spurring him on!
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 16 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
A. Demuro, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
N. Mattiolo got himself booked. The manager of stars was not happy.
The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like
P. Carp.
Cheers filled the stadium as
N. Mattiolo broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to stars.
Players in stars heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead.
After 36 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
S. Falzano gave the stars supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0.
Confident in their lead, stars's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
The home side's
R. Pivetti came close to extending the lead 39 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
R. Borino managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop.
After 41 minutes,
P. Bedin put stars ahead 4 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
4 - 0 was the halftime score.
stars enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 66 percent of possession.
stars managed to extend their lead to 5 - 0 when
R. Moscardelli cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
It was obvious that stars had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of stars to 6 - 0 as
P. Carp finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
stars increased the lead as
N. Mattiolo struck to make the score 7 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as stars scored another to make it 8 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
P. Bedin after 83 minutes.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by stars, with 69 percent of the ball.
The most dominating stars player was without a doubt
R. Pivetti.
P. Schicchi turned in a dismal performance, however.
O.S.L.'s best player was
T. Ammannati.
On the other hand,
R. Borino's play was disheartening.
The match ends 8 - 0.
