Clear skies welcomed the 7550 spectators who had made their way to
lextra.info Arena.
Emery Booth was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Juan Luis Córdoba and
Luc Metzenbauer.
Aieie had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Lineup: Viggiani - Paul, Fraviga, Bacenetti, Parolini - Boldrini, Micciarelli, Marcelli, La Manna - Bellagotti, Iannarelli.
United decided to use a 2-5-3 set up.
They fielded: Severo - Baldazzi, Musetto - Vettorato, Bekar, Whiting, Schütze-Meyer, Castellanos - Marastoni, Higuera, Rektořík.
United showed off their creative tactics.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 9 minutes into the match, and
M. Rektořík wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
D. Higuera of United took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 12 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2.
Some fine movement on the left led to a United goal after 15 minutes, making it 0 - 3.
J. Schütze-Meyer was noted down as the scorer.
The referee signalled a penalty 21 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box.
J. Schütze-Meyer knocked it home to make the score 0 - 4.
With 37 minutes played,
P. Marastoni of United fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
0 - 4 was the halftime score.
United enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.
B. Bekar left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 47 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
D. Stiletto was the replacement.
The coach of United was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 50 minutes,
J. Labrada came on for
G. Vettorato.
The United players could smell victory in the air.
E. Castellanos wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
I. Mahnach after 52 minutes.
After the ball was lifted in from the left,
M. Rektořík was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 56 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.
With 58 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
M. Rektořík of United to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 5.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of United lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
J. Schütze-Meyer received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 60 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 6. The United fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
J. Schütze-Meyer.
The referee showed Aieie's
P. Marcelli the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
United were worse off though, as
P. Marastoni was unable to finish the game and no more substitutes were available!
M. Rektořík could have put his team up another goal 69 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
The visitors'
M. Rektořík took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 81 minutes into the match. 0 - 7 for United.
At that,
M. Rektořík was noted down for a hat trick!
United claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 65 percent.
Aieie's top performer was clearly
P. Micciarelli.
E. Viggiani turned in a dismal performance, however.
Most important United player was
M. Rektořík.
E. Musetto on the other hand, had a terrible day.
