Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 53991 at
Molineux today.
Rubén Rosselló was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Marco Obel and
Guillaume Macé.
Everyone was excited about the upcoming
Beograd derby and the crowd was divided evenly.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Wolves.
The following players had been chosen: Bajzát - Santo, Amaru, Davalós - Lücken, Perišić, Fanton, Sretenović, Rotzetter - Ðurašinović, Krivokapić.
Belgrade tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
They fielded: Zdravković - Simović, Dervishi, Brković - Babičković, Golub, Šekularac, Osmanović, Bojanić - Tanasić, Pejčić.
With 16 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending.
H. Golub put the ball away for 0 - 1.
S. Tanasić of Belgrade took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 25 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2.
It took several tries, but Wolves managed to break through on the left after 29 minutes, getting the ball to
J. Amaru who easily reduced the lead to make the score 1 - 2.
It was 1 - 2 at the break.
Possession was split evenly between the teams.
With a shot curled in from just outside the middle of the penalty area after 53 minutes played,
R. Ðurašinović of Wolves made the score 2 - 2.
U. Fanton of Wolves seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 3 - 2 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
D. Lücken.
Wolves put in a good effort on the right, but
R. Ðurašinović saw his volley fly wide of the mark 56 minutes into the game.
The visitors didn't give in and, after 60 minutes,
P. Osmanović got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 3 - 3.
64 minutes into the match, Belgrade nearly took the lead, as
E. Dervishi broke through on the right.
Z. Bajzát made the save, however.
Belgrade's
P. Osmanović had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 66 minutes having been played.
O. Aleksić was the replacement.
A. Simović was the new captain of Belgrade - handed the armband by the departing player.
Some great play up the middle by Wolves led to a chance for
R. Ðurašinović to score after 68 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
The visitors were very close to gaining the lead with a marvellous free kick after 69 minutes, but
Z. Bajzát made a beautiful one-handed save.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
U. Fanton from Wolves a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 74 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Possession in this half belonged to Belgrade, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.
R. Ðurašinović performed admirably for Wolves.
J. Amaru on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Belgrade's top performer was clearly
S. Tanasić.
However,
E. Dervishi made a disastrous appearance.
