Dark skies made the crowd of 6798 at
Petka Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Dino Delgado was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jan Raun Sørensen and
Rudi Semmelweiß.
All of
Beograd was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby.
Petka had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Radivojević - Nikolić, Bogojević, Crnovršanin, Tasić - Moravčević, Teodorović, Ilijašević, Drljača - Ocokoljić, Kročka.
Zvezda! started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Prelić - Vujević, Cvetković, Budimirović, Anokić - Marković, Matić, Baštovanović, Obradović - Perić, Ðujić.
A spectacular volley from
M. Anokić almost resulted in a goal, but a good save from the keeper kept it out, and
N. Marković could only knock the loose ball wide.
A. Obradović of Zvezda! received a yellow card after 18 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
With 24 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as
A. Kročka flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
Petka had to make a substitution after 29 minutes.
M. Nikolić limped off the field and was replaced by
P. Bogosavljević.
Zvezda! levelled the score after 35 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as
A. Perić struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked.
After 39 minutes, the defensive line of Petka created a counterattack through the middle that gave
A. Ocokoljić a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
Many thought
M. Tasić ought to have been awarded a penalty 40 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
N. Prelić after a determined run through the middle.
It was 1 - 1 at the break.
Zvezda! enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.
After 69 minutes, Zvezda!'s
M. Anokić made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 1 - 2.
After 71 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
P. Vujević a chance to increase the lead for Zvezda!, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 3.
The players of Zvezda! now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
V. Drljača almost reduced the deficit, having drawn the entire left side defence away, but the shot went straight into the arms of the goalkeeper.
The referee showed Petka's
A. Ocokoljić the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Zvezda! claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.
S. Moravčević performed admirably for Petka.
I. Teodorović on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Zvezda!'s top performer was clearly
A. Perić.
A. Obradović turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 3.
