Clouds darkened the skies at Zen Arena as 31955 spectators turned up for the match. Luc Charrier was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Marco Avanzolini and Albert Coburn. Phaedrus started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. Lineup: Inistarte - Noury, Nilsson, Couto - Amaral, Pachl, Arnuero, Yngvesson - Jensen, Biermeier, Wiatrak.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for BIBOs. They fielded: Werens - Kodzheykov, Hristov, Todorov - Kovachev, Penev, Kovachev, Pastúrmadzhiev, Chirită - Bustamante, Andonov.

A penalty was given after 23 minutes, allowing the visitors to gain the lead: 0 - 1. P. Pastúrmadzhiev was the scorer. As C. Nilsson had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Phaedrus player a red card without batting an eyelid. After the ball was lifted in from the left, T. Penev was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 25 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Phaedrus had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

The crowd chanted their encouragement as Phaedrus's J. Noury came in from the right after 47 minutes and put the ball in the net to level the score at 1 - 1. After 55 minutes, T. Biermeier sprinted between the opposing defenders and squared the ball, but the keeper deflected N. Jensen's shot. As the 66 minute mark approached, the Phaedrus coach decided it was time for a substitution. T. Pachl reluctantly made way for P. Korytko on the pitch. K. Todorov caught everyone off guard with a great opening pass - but unfortunately K. Andonov was as surprised by the move as anybody else, and managed to miss the extraordinary opportunity. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 74 minutes into the match left BIBOs's H. Kovachev completely free to score. 1 - 2 for the visitors. The BIBOs players could smell victory in the air. P. Kovachev wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for D. Vúrbanov after 80 minutes. E. Bustamante left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. N. Tanev was the replacement. The coach of BIBOs was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 89 minutes, P. Bumbarov came on for S. Chirită. N. Tanev became the new BIBOs captain. Phaedrus enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.

Phaedrus's top performer was clearly N. Jensen. J. Couto on the other hand, had a terrible day. P. Pastúrmadzhiev performed admirably for BIBOs. K. Todorov was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 2.
