It had rained all day, but 53044 hardy fans still made it out to
NŠ Bencak.
Eldert Molthof was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ferruccio Mazzoni and
Charles-Etienne Landry.
Bencak started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Kačúr - Dikmen, Ingenito, Quesada - Baicu, Olsen, Orefice, Bucak, Špan - Stokowski, Villa.
Smart had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Da Costa - Van den Bergh, Peterin, Srnak, Ramírez - Goršak, Kaňák, Dobrnjac, Landwald - Avguštinčič, Zalaznik.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Smart.
At 6 minutes played,
J. Villa came in from the right with the intention of giving Bencak the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar.
The referee showed Smart's
V. Srnak the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
S. Olsen of Bencak had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
M. Beiern came in to finish the match.
M. Zalaznik had a good try after 19 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide.
Bencak's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 20 minutes gone, but
G. Bucak's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper.
Smart's
V. Avguštinčič left the field after 24 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
S. Smerdelj.
0 - 0 was the halftime score.
Bencak enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.
E. Stokowski spent most of the time in a heap on the ground today, his normally rapid movement hindered by the slippery pitch.
They were singing the praises of
E. Stokowski 62 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Bencak.
Bencak's
A. Špan was shown a yellow card after 69 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
A. Ingenito almost put Bencak ahead another goal when he curled a free kick over the defensive wall and almost into the net, but the visitors' keeper got there just in time to knock it wide.
Smart mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 72 minutes, but
Č. Kaňák was unable to convert from short range.
Coming in from the right, Smart had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 74 minutes, but
P. Landwald's attempt to finish was easily stopped.
E. Peterin got left behind when Bencak's
J. Villa made a sudden run forward after 77 minutes, finishing off with a neat strike. 2 - 0!
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Bencak, with 54 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Bencak player was without a doubt
J. Villa.
M. Beiern turned in a dismal performance, however.
Smart's best player was
S. Smerdelj.
P. Landwald on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 0.
