Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 33523 at Boston Garden today. Jeff Christopher was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jospeer Daneau and Leopoldo Sotto. KELT tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Hughes - van Cromvoirt, Thorn, Arentze - Kochanowicz, Ster, Effenkammer, Brezan, Cygan - Draeger, Červenec.

Studenci had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. They fielded: Domínguez - Ivan, Keren - Kuba, Nourisson, Oge, Melamed, Valsecchi - Collet, Richardson, Afrazandeh.

KELT made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left L. van Cromvoirt completely alone with keeper E. Domínguez, who made a spectacular block. Studenci's M. Melamed refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 6 minutes. Against a lesser team, KELT could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 18 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to K. Ster, but the KELT player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! 1 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by KELT, with 51 percent of the ball.

The home side's M. Draeger came close to extending the lead 73 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but E. Domínguez managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. Studenci tied it all up, 74 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by C. Oge, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 1 - 1. As the 75 minute mark approached, the KELT coach decided it was time for a substitution. K. Arentze reluctantly made way for J. Vrhovski on the pitch. After 75 minutes, the KELT coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving M. Draeger off the field. V. Kosem took his place. KELT's V. Kosem got himself booked for a foul. They were singing the praises of V. Červenec 82 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 2 - 1 to KELT. After 84 minutes, S. Cygan sprinted between the opposing defenders and squared the ball, but the keeper deflected V. Kosem's shot. After 85 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by V. Kosem might have resulted in another goal for KELT. However, E. Domínguez made a spectacular save. Coming through the middle M. Collet almost scored the equaliser for Studenci after 87 minutes, but J. Hughes made an excellent save, tipping the awkwardly curled shot past the post. KELT claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.

KELT's best player was V. Červenec. W. Kochanowicz was a disappointment, however. Studenci's top performer was clearly G. Nourisson. N. Ivan turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 1.
