The 12000 spectators at fc metlika Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Michael Robertsson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Fritz Freiberg and Franciszek Wenc. metlika had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Starin - Toplak, Lemezina, Konzer, Racman - Zelenik, Jordan, Konečnik, Mlinarević - Vidmar, Kamenar.

Milanista started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. Starters: Balajič - Kamen, Kordež, Lunder, Sodano - Žagmajster, Kasnik, Hrobat, Hudnik - Kurent, Smrečnjak.

With 11 minutes played M. Mlinarević almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. After a fine move down the middle R. Konzer nearly gave the home side a goal after 12 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. The celebrations in the stands could only mean one thing - J. Toplak's free kick had found the back of the net and put metlika ahead 1 - 0! The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave D. Zelenik from metlika a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 28 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! R. Konzer could have put metlika up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 29 minutes. It was 1 - 0 at the break. metlika claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.

metlika's D. Zelenik swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. Milanista's M. Kurent left the field after 55 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was Ž. Neumeister. J. Toplak increased metlika's lead to 2 - 0 with a penalty spot cannonball. By now, the players in metlika felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Milanista had a fair chance to reply after 60 minutes due to some fine moves down the left, but in the end A. Lunder was slow to keep up with the play and was unable to make it into the penalty box to apply a finish. The referee showed metlika's J. Toplak the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Possession in this half belonged to metlika, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.

Most important metlika player was N. Vidmar. G. Starin on the other hand, had a terrible day. L. Žagmajster performed admirably for Milanista. However, S. Kamen made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 0.
