previous 3/10 next 5/10  PIPICE 2 - 2 Spartans (382813987)

A scorching day at ljuta zmija, where 36883 spectators were in place for today's match. René Kastorf was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Dejan Raković and Tage Sauer. The derby had been the talk of Zagreb all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for PIPICE. The following players had been chosen: Datković - Jagić, Lozić, Morić, Pinho Souza - Dinjar, Cetina, Bacsó, Gračan - Kopić, Gamliel.

Spartans had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. They fielded: Yuwono - Melkin, Nökel - Bofill, Humaña, Hoffmann, Deák, Baster - Fauville, Troskot, Brizuela.

One of many good crosses from F. Gračan on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by N. Gamliel, who scored for PIPICE. 1 - 0 B. Pinho Souza should probably have put his team up another goal after 17 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by R. Yuwono kept the visitors in the game. With 19 minutes played, PIPICE's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to F. Lozić he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 2 - 0. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0. Spartans claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

Coming in on the left, D. Troskot did everything right to get a goal for Spartans after 57 minutes, but his finishing shot was stabbed clear by the keeper. The crowd gasped as J. Cetina of PIPICE was flattened by an opponent after 72 minutes and had to be carried off. R. Cossement came in off the bench. Ater 78 minutes D. Fauville seized on an opportunistic attack from the right, and scored for Spartans making it 2 - 1. PIPICE's T. Bacsó had an excellent opportunity after 79 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! E. Brizuela hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but it was mishandled, giving Spartans's A. Deák an easy chance to knock it in for 2 - 2. It wasn't a good day at all for D. Dinjar. His powerful style of play just didn't fit the bill on this warm day. 86 minutes in, PIPICE's F. Gračan received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Spartans enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

PIPICE's top performer was clearly J. Kopić. B. Pinho Souza on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Spartans player was without a doubt P. Humaña. O. Baster was a disappointment, however. The match ends 2 - 2.
