(382814918)

23-06-2012 13.45
Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 38599 at
Whosu Arena today.
Víctor Alonso was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Augusto Caloni and
Andrea Paolillo.
Whosu had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Starters: Lacmanović - Lenuzzi, Öhrling, Pantner - Malmner, Burek, Gózon, Holmberg, Walsh - Ivuša, Jannaoui.
Kneginec decided to use a 5-5-0 set up.
The following players took the field: Strahija - Kukuljan, Galeb, Šprljan, Torrescasana, Nazor - Jagodziński, Lineri, Mosheua, Kąkol, Zwanenburg -.
Pressing was the tactic of the day for Kneginec.
Kneginec's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends.
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
D. Ivuša, but the Whosu player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0!
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 24 minutes, Whosu did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
P. Gózon was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 2 - 0.
D. Ivuša increased the lead for Whosu to 3 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
3 - 0 was the halftime score.
Whosu enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 71 percent of possession.
With 52 minutes played, Whosu's
D. Burek almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
After 54 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
D. Walsh gave the Whosu supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Whosu lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
The home side's
A. Jannaoui curled a free kick home after 61 minutes, putting Whosu ahead 5 - 0.
With 64 minutes played,
P. Lineri of Kneginec fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
The score became 6 - 0 at 71 minutes into the game, when Whosu were given a penalty which
A. Jannaoui blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance!
Whosu had most of the ball, with 76 percent of possession.
Whosu's top performer was clearly
A. Jannaoui.
D. Walsh on the other hand, had a terrible day.
P. Strahija performed admirably for Kneginec.
L. Zwanenburg was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 6 - 0.
