04-08-2012 13.45
It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 47801 that came out to
Waterboy Garden.
Christian Reemtsema was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ferenc Lisztes and
Rik Doornenbal.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Vodonoša.
Starters: de Carvalho - Iordan, Vätti, Clos - Uyan, Makara, Avemann-Letter, Grzmot - Corazzesi, Todor, Dalana.
kobasama had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
They fielded: Pasteur - Frleta, Šegota - Buchecker, Duval, Caiazza, van Hout, Pihlajaharju - Miličević, Nash, Foschini.
Vodonoša were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
Today, kobasama's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
Against a lesser team, kobasama could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 13 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
kobasama were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
16 minutes into the game,
B. Miličević had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide.
After 28 minutes, kobasama's
S. Duval made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1.
The referee showed Vodonoša's
J. Clos the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
The visitors'
Z. Nash took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 33 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for kobasama.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of kobasama lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Vodonoša's
Ş. Todor was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 35 minutes.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by kobasama, with 64 percent of the ball.
The sunny day didn't make things easy for
B. Miličević who didn't seem his usual powerful self on the pitch.
Vodonoša's
M. Corazzesi cut towards the middle after 78 minutes, receiving a brilliant pass and slicing through the visiting team's central defence, reducing the lead to 1 - 2.
kobasama's
B. Miličević got himself booked for a foul.
A loud groan was heard from the fans of Vodonoša, as
J. Grzmot left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match.
U. Mišković took his place on the field.
After 82 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
Z. Nash to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 1 - 3.
Some fine movement on the left led to a kobasama goal after 83 minutes, making it 1 - 4.
G. Foschini was noted down as the scorer.
Players in kobasama heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead.
J. Šegota increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 1 - 5.
The crowd gasped as
J. Šegota of kobasama was flattened by an opponent after 86 minutes and had to be carried off.
M. Čavka came in off the bench.
kobasama had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.
Most important Vodonoša player was
M. Corazzesi.
A. Dalana was a disappointment, however.
kobasama's top performer was clearly
H. Caiazza.
S. Pasteur turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 5.
