(382876492)

11-08-2012 13.45
Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Vicente Calderón saw a crowd turnout of 35186.
Nicolaas Barnhoorn was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Wim Gaasenbeek and
Heinrich Tesdorff.
Atlético started off with a 2-5-3 lineup.
Starters: Pérez - Cailleaux, Skobodziński - Guéraud, Zammit, Corrales, Ševo, Floriano - Saalamo, Claudino, Kranjčar.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Junajted.
They fielded: Šupić - Baburić, Antičević, Pestotnik, Lončarek - Rupić, Rot, Matun, Maravić - Milačić, Egič.
It was obvious that Junajted were using their pressing skill as their primary tactic.
A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by
T. Baburić. At last, Junajted's
V. Pestotnik was able to backheel the ball in. 0 - 1.
After 28 minutes,
V. Ševo got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn't get the shot away.
With the crowd on their feet chanting wildly, some great moves down the right hand side after 32 minutes gave Atlético a wonderful opportunity to level the score, and
B. Corrales stepped up to the challenge. 1 - 1
35 minutes into the match and the home team took a 2 - 1 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for Atlético was
H. Cailleaux.
After 39 minutes,
A. Claudino put Atlético ahead 3 - 1 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
43 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
H. Cailleaux broke through, making the score 4 - 1 for Atlético.
4 - 1 was the score after the first half.
Possession in this half belonged to Atlético, who controlled the ball 72 percent of the time.
J. Floriano of Atlético was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
Atlético put themselves up 5 - 1 when
A. Claudino broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
By now, the players in Atlético felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
After 72 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
V. Ševo gave the Atlético supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 6 - 1.
Atlético's
J. Floriano increased the lead to 7 - 1, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 78 minutes.
D. Zammit should probably have put his team up another goal after 79 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
J. Šupić kept the visitors in the game.
With 84 minutes played,
N. Rot of Junajted fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
Atlético claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 75 percent.
Atlético's best player was
J. Saalamo.
V. Ševo was a disappointment, however.
Most important Junajted player was
A. Egič.
On the other hand,
V. Pestotnik's play was disheartening.
The match ends 7 - 1.
