Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Hackerin F.C. Arena saw a crowd turnout of 56009.
Mikael Ikäläinen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
David Fillola and
Carl Ramsten.
Hackerin started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Spompato - Ferreiro, Kuleša, Draheim - Allagui, Klarić, Verberne, Serrand, Nakari - Monge, Illescas.
Gondolin tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
Lineup: Quijano - Heje, Palomba, Opazo, Rincón - Bednarek, Lazăr, Kreisler, Tarasov - de Mérode, Cuartango.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Gondolin.
30 minutes into the game Gondolin managed a counterattack, but
U. Cuartango took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper.
Gondolin almost scored after a counterattack 41 minutes into the match, but
R. Palomba took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
R. Palomba from Gondolin a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 42 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Halftime score was 0 - 0.
Hackerin enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
Priding himself in being an active coach, the Hackerin manager gave new instructions to his players after 63 minutes.
Gondolin had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 76 minutes, but
U. Cuartango's shot from the left sailed high over the bar.
Gondolin had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 78 minutes in when
T. Heje came up alone against
G. Spompato who managed a block.
The corner kick from
M. Kuleša was powerfully met by the head of
H. Verberne to make the score 1 - 0.
In an effort to secure the lead, Hackerin changed their tactic after 87 minutes.
R. Monge wanted to play on, but the Hackerin coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 87 minutes into the game by
B. Fudała.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Gondolin's
A. Opazo was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 87 minutes.
J. Ortiz was given a chance to change things around.
The Gondolin players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team.
After a short break after 87 minutes, Hackerin seemed to change their tactical approach a bit.
Hackerin had to make a substitution after 88 minutes.
H. Nakari limped off the field and was replaced by
P. Zarro.
Hackerin claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.
J. Illescas performed admirably for Hackerin.
P. Zarro turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Gondolin player was without a doubt
S. de Mérode.
On the other hand,
A. Bednarek's play was disheartening.
