The 62439 fans in attendance at
Al final de la Carretera were roasting in the hot sun.
Ulf Grenbratt was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Aert Bekenkamp and
Aki Myllylä.
Carretera decided to use a 2-5-3 set up.
Lineup: Ryan - Carvão, Veraguth - Maćkiewicz, Reginato, Tosh, Montrimavičius, Casaca - Álvarez, Majer, Martí.
Litos started off with a 5-4-1 lineup.
The following players took the field: Vilagran - López, Frolaz, Liesting, Villaseca, Lemesle - Piquer, Navarro, Milkes, Balmaceda - Fitnat.
Carretera clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle.
Litos clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
It was obvious that team Carretera had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
Making his way up the middle 17 minutes into the match,
J. Tosh almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
J. Vilagran blocked it to keep the score level.
Litos's
N. Lemesle left the field after 18 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
P. Manrique.
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
C. Majer, but the Carretera player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0!
After 23 minutes, the visitors tied it up at 1 - 1 when a fantastic pass from the left was finished off by
E. Fitnat.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
J. Frolaz from Litos a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 25 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
With 26 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 2 - 1 lead as
P. Reginato flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
27 minutes into the game, Litos seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
weak.
Litos's
R. Liesting was shown a yellow card after 33 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Carretera were forced into a substitution as
J. Tosh couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
S. Lomholt to come in off the bench.
P. Álvarez tried using a burst of speed to get past his defender after 38 minutes, but it takes more than that to get past fast
J. Villaseca.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
P. Álvarez squirmed through their central defence after 39 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 1.
By now, the players in Carretera felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
3 - 1 was the score after the first half.
Carretera claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 75 percent.
The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Litos had
solid organisation.
A well placed corner kick from
J. Villaseca was followed by
N. Milkes's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Litos, the score now 3 - 2.
Carretera's
E. Veraguth got himself booked for a foul.
O. Martí should probably have put his team up another goal after 56 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
J. Vilagran kept the visitors in the game.
Litos's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 57 minutes gone, but
A. Piquer's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper.
67 minutes into the game, Litos seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
passable level of organisation.
Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Carretera, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Carretera's
G. Casaca increasing the lead to 4 - 2.
Carretera managed to extend their lead to 5 - 2 when
G. Casaca cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
After 80 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Carretera was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Carretera, with 73 percent of the ball.
Carretera's top performer was clearly
C. Majer.
E. Veraguth on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important Litos player was
J. Villaseca.
On the other hand,
J. Vilagran's play was disheartening.
The match ends 5 - 2.
