previous 3/4 next 1/4  Jerna 4 - 1 Javas (382887092)

Clear skies welcomed the 49096 spectators who had made their way to Santiago Jernabéu. Bep van Luijkensdaal was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Tristan van Hemert and Petri Lindroos. Jerna decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players took the field: Echea - Abella, McEwan, Gaudron - Maestro Buelga, Piñeiro, Pérez Gil, Peláez, Carvajal - Tries, Portabella.

Javas had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Mongiardino - Moreau, Uthmani, Basilio - Sardinha, García, Ablitas, del Pozo, Garre - Doncel, Zarpas.

18 minutes into the match, Jerna's G. Maestro Buelga demonstrated his famed speed as he raced past his marker and passed the ball to A. Portabella who chipped it in for 1 - 0. Cheers filled the stadium as G. Maestro Buelga broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Jerna. A great save by keeper C. Mongiardino after 37 minutes kept the visitors in the game after L. Gaudron struck from the left with a real cannonball. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. È. Abella squirmed through their central defence after 40 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 0. By now, the players in Jerna felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. R. Zarpas acted with superior experience when, 42 minutes into the match, he predicted a pass, intercepted it and then finished off with a goal. 3 - 1 for Javas! It was 3 - 1 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Jerna, with 58 percent of the ball.

A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Jerna's R. Piñeiro increasing the lead to 4 - 1. J. Pérez Gil should probably have put his team up another goal after 77 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by C. Mongiardino kept the visitors in the game. Jerna enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.

Jerna's best player was A. Portabella. I. Carvajal was a disappointment, however. Javas's top performer was clearly F. Ablitas. H. Uthmani turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 4 - 1.
