The 34994 fans in attendance at
Bifurca Arena were roasting in the hot sun.
Bernd Marchhart was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Leon Kosturek and
Cedric Renzmann.
Montcadense started off with a 5-4-1 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Domenech - Ander, Ferreiros, Romero, Gallarza, Rutkowski - Pandler, Meléndez, Cumbis, Teribia - Cabezudo.
Olvidados had chosen a strategic 4-3-3 formation.
Starters: Erauno - Molina, Lume, Miñano, Menéndez - Uusitupa, Paskačimas, Gariza - Priego, Miranda, Vázquez.
At the beginning of the game, Olvidados appeared to have already taken this victory to the bank.
Montcadense were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Olvidados.
Montcadense took the lead 9 minutes into the match after a magnificent free kick by
T. Romero that made the score 1 - 0.
Olvidados's counterattacks created a good chance for
P. Gariza on the right after 11 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar.
After 27 minutes Montcadense's
I. Meléndez contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.
With 35 minutes played, Montcadense's
S. Rutkowski almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
The head of
R. Molina connected with a corner kick after 37 minutes, and the ball ended up with
P. Priego of Olvidados who blasted the ball into the net, making the score 1 - 1.
It was 1 - 1 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Montcadense, with 57 percent of the ball.
The Olvidados players had looked too sure of themselves in the first half. Several of the players managed to break this attitude as the second half started, realising they would not be able to win unless they also put in the hard work.
The heat made it a terrible day for
F. Ferreiros, who seemed unable to keep up with the other players.
The intense heat forced
M. Pandler into making some errors because he couldn't seem to keep up with the others.
Montcadense could have put themselves ahead after 77 minutes but
T. Romero missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right.
I. Meléndez of Montcadense received a yellow card after 81 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
E. Paskačimas came close to putting the visiting team one up 82 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
A. Domenech managed to tip the ball to a corner.
After some beautiful movement down the left wing,
P. Cumbis scored for Montcadense putting them ahead 2 - 1, after 86 minutes.
Possession in this half belonged to Montcadense, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.
The most dominating Montcadense player was without a doubt
F. Cabezudo.
S. Rutkowski on the other hand, had a terrible day.
P. Priego performed admirably for Olvidados.
R. Lume was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 2 - 1.
