previous 1/10 next 3/10  MECANICA 3 - 1 Sundays (382895768)

Dark skies made the crowd of 26641 at Cubo de Benavente a little nervous, but the rain held off. Rombout van Oldebarneveld was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Teo Küchenmeister and Jelle-Jan Brekelmans. MECANICA tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players took the field: Murguía - Egger, Chevrier, Fromista - Organek, Balvís, Cacera, Manfio, Kılıç - Valcarcel, Matamoros.

Sundays decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. Lineup: Caibe - Terrona Soto, Provencio - Riobóo, Porcel Aguirre, Fornells, de Santos, Światłowski - Horazqueta, Lefler, Ensuyo.

Sundays clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. MECANICA broke through on the left 6 minutes into the game, with P. Valcarcel firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. The home side failed to add to their score as A. Matamoros shot a penalty wide after 19 minutes. MECANICA's A. Matamoros saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 27 minutes. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. Sundays enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.

It was obvious that team Sundays had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Coming through the middle X. de Santos almost scored the equaliser for Sundays after 56 minutes, but J. Murguía made an excellent save, tipping the awkwardly curled shot past the post. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. K. Kılıç squirmed through their central defence after 58 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0. MECANICA put themselves up 3 - 0 when F. Egger broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. A. Matamoros should probably have put his team up another goal after 68 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by B. Caibe kept the visitors in the game. Sundays players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The home team's fans were upset when, after 71 minutes, the visiting S. Horazqueta broke through the central defence and kicked the ball past the keeper. 3 - 1 was the score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Sundays, with 54 percent of the ball.

The most dominating MECANICA player was without a doubt N. Cacera. On the other hand, A. Organek's play was disheartening. Sundays's top performer was clearly D. Ensuyo. S. Horazqueta was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 1.
