28-07-2012 14.00
The 43150 fans in attendance at
Forhauts Arena were roasting in the hot sun.
Roel Vanlierde was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Tim Buitenwerf and
Rafael Ćusa.
A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Medinense.
The following players had been chosen: Kriszt - Poyales, Querol - Rusol, Trincher, Friis, Fino, Cocón - Gammelgaard, Posquieres, Bauzà.
Celtics tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination.
Lineup: Ladegaard - Terragni, Moral - Sørlie, Beauregard, McCarra, Diaferia, Vieira - Danguso, Somonte, N'Dione.
Medinense used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
Celtics's
F. Danguso gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 3 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
After 29 minutes,
P. Gammelgaard made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 1 - 1.
The terraces were silenced after 34 minutes when Celtics's
J. Somonte put the guests ahead 1 - 2, following an attack on the right.
J. Somonte's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence.
Had it not been for one of the home defenders,
B. N'Dione would have put Celtics up another goal 38 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing.
R. Beauregard received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 39 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 1 - 3. The Celtics fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
Halftime score was 1 - 3.
Celtics had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.
Medinense players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead.
The home team's supporters got excited again when
R. Poyales broke through the visitors' central defence and caught their keeper off guard, making it 2 - 3.
J. Somonte could have put his team up another goal 51 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
S. Posquieres got himself booked. The manager of Medinense was not happy.
Celtics increased their lead after 56 minutes when
F. Danguso broke through on the right, upping the score to 2 - 4, much to the home crowd's dismay.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
T. Friis from Medinense a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 70 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
B. McCarra was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Celtics's
X. Leizán had to come off the bench.
Some fine movement on the left led to a Celtics goal after 75 minutes, making it 2 - 5.
M. Terragni was noted down as the scorer.
76 minutes into the match,
J. Somonte came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide.
Medinense's
R. Poyales was shown a yellow card after 77 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
The player down was
F. Danguso. The Celtics bench looked worried for a while, but in the end he managed to get up.
Possession in this half belonged to Celtics, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.
The most dominating Medinense player was without a doubt
R. Poyales.
M. Kriszt on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important Celtics player was
R. Beauregard.
N. Ladegaard turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 2 - 5.
