29415 fans braved the pouring rain at
Angel Agüero Memorial Stadium.
Damián Arrieta was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Milan Sušić and
Edwin Pretro.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Teddy.
They fielded: Quesada - López de Madrid, Fernández, Couffin - Montenay, Ostos, Tovar, García-Drake - Ecay, Zaldierna, Sánchez.
Akbaos started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Cieślicki - Dutra, Alberani, Gariza - Wilhelmus, Fer, Jankowetz, Schmiedeberg, Foy - Pantić, Costache.
Many thought
A. Tovar ought to have been awarded a penalty 3 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
G. Cieślicki after a determined run through the middle.
Thighs bulging,
J. López de Madrid charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain.
After 24 minutes, Akbaos put themselves up 0 - 1, as
G. Dutra finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot.
U. Schmiedeberg was, after 30 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
R. Quesada made the save.
C. Montenay made a superb strike after 34 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner.
C. Ecay showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 35 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 1 - 1 equaliser away.
36 minutes into the match and the home team took a 2 - 1 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for Teddy was
J. Sánchez.
It was 2 - 1 at the break.
Teddy enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.
Teddy solidified their lead at the 51 minute mark, as
C. Montenay dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 1.
Confident in their lead, Teddy's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
Teddy managed to extend their lead to 4 - 1 when
C. Ecay cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
The rain made it hard for players like
A. Alberani to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day.
71 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
B. Ostos broke through, making the score 5 - 1 for Teddy.
Akbaos's
A. Alberani got himself booked for a foul.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Teddy, with 54 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Teddy player was without a doubt
C. Ecay.
M. Fernández turned in a dismal performance, however.
U. Pantić performed admirably for Akbaos.
On the other hand,
K. Jankowetz's play was disheartening.
The match ends 5 - 1.
