25-08-2012 15.00
The 19955 fans in attendance at
ÁLVAREZ-PALENCIA were roasting in the hot sun.
Tore Tesdal was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Antonio Di Pietro and
Natalio Ticona.
BASTER decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Sáenz - Paulsen, Trias, Alessandro - Fernández Lorca, Casino, Braspenning, Andracek, Urbansson - González, Sturnela.
Gurruminos started off with a 2-5-3 lineup.
Starters: Löffel - Umpanera, Matulka - Karkulahti, Pedersen, Tomanič, Ortega Flores, Okbi - Coeo, Gil, Broda.
10 minutes into the game,
A. Gil had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide.
Many thought
O. Sturnela ought to have been awarded a penalty 19 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
N. Löffel after a determined run through the middle.
S. Broda had a good try after 27 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide.
L. Braspenning gave BASTER the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0
Given a free kick close to the byline, BASTER tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
D. Fernández Lorca slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 2 - 0, 35 minutes into the game.
Halftime score was 2 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by BASTER, with 52 percent of the ball.
D. Fernández Lorca had a fantastic opportunity to put BASTER up another goal 60 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
O. Sturnela didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
A great save by keeper
N. Löffel after 67 minutes kept the visitors in the game after
J. González struck from the left with a real cannonball.
The BASTER players could smell victory in the air.
J. González wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
J. Echavarría after 70 minutes.
Usually a powerful player on the field,
A. Gil looked kind of pale and tired under the hot sun.
BASTER solidified their lead at the 74 minute mark, as
L. Braspenning dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of BASTER lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
M. Pedersen dispatched a majestic long shot 76 minutes into the match, but missed the goal by a few metres.
Gurruminos's
B. Ortega Flores had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 77 minutes having been played.
R. Rebolledo was the replacement.
78 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
J. Urbansson broke through, making the score 4 - 0 for BASTER.
Neither team were able to dominate possession this half.
The most dominating BASTER player was without a doubt
G. Casino.
J. Trias on the other hand, had a terrible day.
S. Broda performed admirably for Gurruminos.
P. Matulka turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 4 - 0.
