Dark skies made the crowd of 23527 at Teatro de los Sueños a little nervous, but the rain held off. Désiré Tricot was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ottó Pósa and Giorgos Courcoubetis. Piti decided to use a 5-4-1 set up. Starters: Rooney - van der Zijde, Värelä, Vira, Lenk, Piscopo - Júnior, Aimetti, Léonard, Schestauber - Phillips.

Mafias tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. The following players had been chosen: Luttinen - Benericetti, Motta, Omoforte - Będziński, Alférez, Trahtemberg, Taxes - Schöggl, Camuso, Estrach.

Piti clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Piti mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 16 minutes, but H. van der Zijde was unable to convert from short range. 23 minutes into the game, H. Motta was a hair's breadth away from giving Mafias the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by A. Rooney saved the home team that time. Coming in from the right, Piti had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 24 minutes, but I. Phillips's attempt to finish was easily stopped. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 27 minutes allowed D. Schöggl to score for Mafias. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. Piti's O. Piscopo got himself booked for a foul. H. Motta of Mafias had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. M. Alibau came in to finish the match. Piti's counterattacks created a good chance for P. Aimetti on the right after 34 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. 0 - 1 was the halftime score. Mafias enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 58 percent of possession.

The home crowd cheered when, after 56 minutes, D. Schöggl's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. Piti's H. van der Zijde was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 70 minutes. With 77 minutes played, S. Camuso nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. With 81 minutes having been played, Piti scored to make it 1 - 1. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but L. Schestauber was marked down as the scorer. Mafias took the lead 83 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle. A. Omoforte was the scorer. 84 minutes in, and Piti were able to score the equalising goal to make it 2 - 2 when I. Phillips picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper. The counterattacks of Piti were deadly and 86 minutes into the game, L. Schestauber received a nice pass from the right flank, making it 3 - 2. A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 87 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called Piti's J. Léonard to one side and produced a red card for the player. Piti put themselves up 4 - 2 when T. Värelä broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Mafias, with 61 percent of the ball.

Piti's top performer was clearly I. Phillips. B. Vira turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Mafias player was without a doubt A. Estrach. M. Alibau was a disappointment, however. The match ends 4 - 2.
