previous 3/10 next 5/10  Mandryl 0 - 2 Sporting (382985696)

22340 punters turned up at Terreno fangoso, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Thierry De Munter was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Martin Kunert and August ''Pösko'' Åkerell. Mandryl tactics involved an interesting 4-3-3 combination. Starters: Gilbert - Lafaye, Arbo, Bełz, Mokotjo - Schulte-Hillen, Zakarževskis, Bogatyrenko - Castellar, Castilla, Babeiro.

Sporting decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. They fielded: Vázquez - Villanova, Ronkiewicz, Svanén - Aybay, Velasco Tovar, Vidanía, Roca, Olmos - 成功 (Chenggong) , Canales.

Mandryl clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Sporting were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave C. Ronkiewicz from Sporting a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 18 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! With 23 minutes played R. Bogatyrenko almost gave the home side the lead with an unexpected free kick set up, but the visitors' W. Vázquez was onto it, grabbing the would be breakthrough ball. The referee showed Mandryl's V. Arbo the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Sporting claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Z. Mokotjo got himself booked. The manager of Mandryl was not happy. 60 minutes into the game, L. Olmos had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. The visiting L. Olmos was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 66 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. The bench was restless, and with 70 minutes passed Mandryl's coach gave M. Ilasa the opportunity the player had been hoping for. G. Schulte-Hillen reluctantly left the field. The Mandryl coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy. The Mandryl players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. The visitors' F. Villanova took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 75 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Sporting. After 76 minutes, a deliberate handball from Sporting's C. Ronkiewicz was judged to be his second bookable offence, and he was sent off. 郭. 成功 (Chenggong) wanted to play on, but the Sporting coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 76 minutes into the game by J. Pfalz. Just a few inches to the right, and the visitors could have had a goal 80 minutes into the match. E. Vidanía surely wishes he could do that free kick over again. Good work by the Sporting defensive line after 82 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found T. Svanén alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Mandryl's V. Lafaye was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 83 minutes. M. Borselli was given a chance to change things around. As the game started to slip away for Mandryl, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. With the scoreboard showing that 86 minutes had been played, Sporting nearly put themselves up another goal after V. Roca came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. Z. Mokotjo remonstrated furiously with the referee after Mandryl had another decision go against them. The referee had no alternative but to show him another yellow card and send him from the pitch. Possession in this half belonged to Sporting, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

E. Castilla performed admirably for Mandryl. G. Gilbert turned in a dismal performance, however. Sporting's best player was M. Canales. W. Vázquez was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 2.
