Winterfell 5 - 1 Deportivo
(382989294)

04-08-2012 15.00
21239 spectators had found their way to
Tower of the hand, despite the heavy rain.
Anangga Rofiq was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Vincent Gressier and
Baltasar Ferrari.
Winterfell tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Díaz - Mateos Romero, Ovando Solis, Navarro Soto - de Martínez, Zuazo Bernabeu, Pellón, Jiménez Varas, Gauca - Cociña, Momediano.
Deportivo started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Itaberá - Pilenkov, Paixão, Javorčík - Bonxe, Romeo, Legg, Tetri, Aroca - Oskarsson, Apetrei.
The wings were the focus of most of Winterfell's attacks today.
L. Pilenkov was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions.
Winterfell took the lead 21 minutes in, as
J. Navarro Soto broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
T. Momediano should probably have put his team up another goal after 27 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
T. Itaberá kept the visitors in the game.
Winterfell put in a good effort on the right, but
J. Zuazo Bernabeu saw his volley fly wide of the mark 30 minutes into the game.
M. Paixão finished off a quick charge from the left of the field by chipping the ball just past the home side's keeper, making the score 1 - 1 32 minutes into the match.
F. Javorčík slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today.
Halftime score was 1 - 1.
Winterfell had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.
After 70 minutes,
J. Jiménez Varas came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 2 - 1, giving Winterfell the lead.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 71 minutes, Winterfell did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
F. Cociña was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 3 - 1.
With 73 minutes played, Winterfell put themselves up 4 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
F. Cociña, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
The referee showed Winterfell's
J. Mateos Romero the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
In a fantastic display of determination, Deportivo's
J. Oskarsson forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down.
Winterfell managed to extend their lead to 5 - 1 when
J. Zuazo Bernabeu cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 85 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
L. Apetrei completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, easy prey for the home side's keeper.
Winterfell claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 64 percent.
Winterfell's top performer was clearly
J. Zuazo Bernabeu.
J. Mateos Romero on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important Deportivo player was
J. Oskarsson.
On the other hand,
L. Pilenkov's play was disheartening.
The match ends 5 - 1.
